Host Odisha reigned supreme, bagging 126 out of 205 medals in the 4th All-India Open Karate Championship, which concluded at Utkal Karate School here on Tuesday. Medals included 37 gold, 35 silver and 54 bronze. West Bengal finished second with a total 60 (15+17+28) medals, while Jharkhand ended third with 13 (4+3+6) medals.
Odisha men and West Bengal women emerged champions in team kata category. Dilip Kumar Jena and Deepak Kumar Samantara (both Odisha) won the titles in open fight and open kata categories respectively. State Sports and Youth Services Principal Secretary Injeti Srinivas handed over the prizes at the closing function. The three-day championship was organized jointly by Utkal Karate School and Shukokai Karate Union India.
